Tear into 27 fresh, contemporary paper projects including how to make your own beautiful paper using recycled materials and plant fibers! Each project has been thoughtfully designed by members of the Primrose Paper Arts, a group of teaching and exhibiting papermakers and bookbinders based in Sydney, Australia. Step-by-step instructions and illustrations guide you through the process of making your own paper — including embossed, embedded, laminated, and other embellished varieties. What to do with your newly crafted paper? No worries — there are projects incorporating handmade (and store-bought) papers to make envelopes, cards, folders, hand-bound books, framed paper artworks and wall-hangings. This isn't your grandma's craft book! Paper is hip and contemporary, filled with stylish photographs and modern projects for today's craft mavens.
The are some really gorgeous examples of paper here. The book starts by giving detailed directions on how to handmake paper using a mold and deckle. If you don't already have a set, you can make a simple one from photo frames and nylon mesh. The other tools are easily obtainable. The book discusses making recycled paper from paper pulp and variations using plant fiber, as well as adding decorative elements using things like scraps of paper or confetti, color, the embedding and embossing techniques. The second part of the book is devoted to projects using handmade paper. They include cards, stationery, several book forms made using varied binding methods. There is nothing new here if you're familiar with bookmaking and bookbinding (except the Star book which is more unusual), but the papers used are so beautiful there's a lot to admire here.
